# Listed vs. Chosen: The Product Visibility Gap in AI Search

> Being listed means AI knows your product exists. Being chosen means AI names it when asked what to buy. Here's what causes the gap and how to close it.

The single idea the whole product is built on: **being listed is not the same as being chosen.**

* **Listed** means an AI assistant knows your product exists — it's in the index. Shopify's built-in syndication can get you this much, and so can your competitors.
* **Chosen** means the assistant actually *names* your product when a shopper asks what to buy.

The gap between the two is where sales are won or lost. A product can be perfectly listed and still never get recommended, because the data and content behind it don't give AI a reason to choose it over an alternative.

Closing the gap is product-level work: fixing the structured data AI reads, answering the buyer questions it's asked, and covering the prompts where you're currently invisible. Every screen in agentShop — Products, How AI Sees Your Brand, the Brand Audit, Content Hub — exists to move specific products and topics from *listed* to *chosen*.
